Wiring Behind Crown Moulding

While doing your home inspections, look for electrical, telephone, speaker and cable wires that could be hidden behind crown molding and floor trim.

Sometimes you will find these wires running underneath carpeting or wood flooring.

Low voltage speaker or television wires, normally will not be a problem because someone has chosen to hide them behind crown molding or other wood trim.

Rarely do you get an opportunity like this, while doing a home inspection, where the crown molding has actually fallen off the ceiling.

It really isn't a good idea to run wires that will be hidden behind wood trim. If someone was to nail or screw into the crown molding, in the wrong spot, they could hit one of these wires and get shocked.

While doing your home inspection, simply make a note of this on your report. Most of this low voltage wire can be disconnected if needed.
