Patio Enclosed For Living Area
While looking at this house it is pretty clear
that this room addition was never permitted. It was an enclosed patio
and to enclose the patio, someone nailed a bunch of OSB on the exterior
and painted it.
I have not seen any OSB or oriented strand board that can be used as an
exterior product or for house siding.
When doing your home inspections be cautious of situations like this
because most real estate professionals have creative ways of selling
these homes without doing any repairs or pulling any permits.
As a home inspector it is not your job to report this to the city or any
other building professionals. This would strictly be the homeowner's
responsibility.
If you are thinking about purchasing a home that has something like this
attached to it, be aware you could have problems later on down the road
and the city could actually make you tear this down or upgraded to meet
local building codes and requirements.
